Translation (by myself) :
These are the letters of a ten year old child. They are found by Mamie Rose, the “Lady in Pink” who visits him in the children’s hospital. They are describing twelve days of Oscar’s life, twelve funny but also grave days, twelve days filled with both comical and heart-warming characters. These twelve days may be the final days of his life. But thanks to Mamie Rose who deeply bonds with Oscar these twelve days are becoming phenomenal.
Oscar has leukaemia. And because the bone marrow transplantation wasn’t successful, people don’t know what to say to him anymore and pretty much stop talking with him.
It is so sweet. Of course also sad, because this subject only can be, but it’s so sweet.
And I can’t tell you much more I just highly recommend to read it. But please always make sure to have some tissues handy. It’s so touching.
If a little knowledge of French still remained, try to read it in French. It’s very easy to read and so well written that even continuous looking-up doesn’t prevent you from continuing to read. There’s also a German translation which seems to be very good. They kept the simple style which makes it feel very different for me. But as far as I can I always prefer to read a book in the original language.
RECOMMENDED!
